Interview with CEO and Founder Viktor Koychev

AS: Where do you come from in the Blockchain Scene and what moved you to found Otcrit? What does Otcrit stand for?

Sure – I had been in the crypto-space for over a year when I decided to get entirely involved in it. I quickly quit my job when I realized I can trade and earn a lot while doing something that I enjoy. I then became a part of a project, which I believe has a high chance to disrupt the Internet as we know it – but I will not mention it here now. I was observing how some amazing projects were slowly building their community, while others became a world sensation overnight. I understood that something was seriously wrong because these tokens had no value.

We all have the chance to participate in the development of the greatest discovery since the Internet, the blockchain, yet we use the assets based on it to simply gamble, making or losing money based on news, rumors and schemes. It all felt (and still does) like the word ‘investing’ had been twisted and had lost its original meaning – to actually put your money and your faith in a project that offers a product or a service capable of changing the world as we know it. What I and my team aim to do is to take the crypto-economy to the next level by making it more transparent and long-term oriented. Instead of trying to identify the coin that would ‘explode’ within the next 24 hours, we are more interested in discovering the legitimate businesses that actually utilize the distributed ledger technology. Those that have solid teams and partnerships, insightful business plan and actual products or services. In case the crypto-bubble bursts these are the projects that would most likely survive. These are the ones we should all be supporting.

That being said, the name ‘Otcrit’ comes from my mother tongue (Bulgarian) and has multiple meanings – ‘transparent’, ‘opened’, ‘found’, ‘discovered’. It represents everything that we stand for. Plus, its abbreviation is OTC, which stands for ‘Over-the-counter’, an inseparable feature of the exchange that we plan to open.

AS: Why did you choose to make a security token and how is this regulated in Bulgaria? Won’t selling this in countries like Germany lead to problems?

Otcrit’s token (OTC) will function as any other cryptocurrency and the Bulgarian legislation does not include a legal definition of cryptocurrencies. They are not (yet) classified as financial instruments unless a derivative is considered. Although the OTC holders are entitled to ether awards which resemble dividend payments this does not mean that the OTC function as company shares simply because OTC holders do not have a stake in the OTC entity.
This is also true for the EU in general. According to the MiFID II (the legislative work, which governs the markets of financial instruments throughout the European Union), cryptocurrencies are not financial instruments. Therefore services with cryptocurrencies, such as advising on cryptocurrencies, organizing of exchanges for cryptocurrencies, managing of a portfolio of cryptocurrencies are not regulated by MiFID II. The fact that the OTC token grants rewards in ETH and not in a fiat currency (or other financial instruments), means that the OTC itself is not a financial instrument. This may change on EU level or on the domestic law level of course. However, currently, we are not aware of any EU Member State (including Germany), which has regulated cryptocurrencies as financial instruments. If cryptocurrencies start being considered to be financial instruments, then Otcrit would be prepared to change according to the new laws.

AS: How can you make sure that reports are objective and correct? Who will do these reports?

Nothing can ever be entirely objective, that’s for sure. You will always have pieces of the whole puzzle, but not the entire puzzle itself. Still, this doesn’t prevent us from aiming to provide as many pieces of it as possible. That can be accomplished by having a lot of analysts present their unique points of view and also by looking into as many sides of a project as possible. These will include, but will not be limited to, team&founders analyses, competition analyses, technical analyses, industry analyses, code evaluations, etc.

We have separated the analyses into two main categories – community reports and expert reports. The first ones will be prepared by our supporters, who don’t necessarily have much experience in the crypto-space, but are passionate about it and are ready to follow the guidelines that we have listed. These guidelines help the analyst consider multiple factors that he needs to include in his evaluation. We are constantly improving the guidelines, trying to make them closer to the standards that the VC companies have when trying to select an investment-worthy project.
The expert reports will be made, as the name suggests, by professionals, with years of experience in the stock market, business in general, crypto or any sort of financial instrument. Community experts will be able to turn into experts if they reach a high ranking through their work. Experts, on the other hand, have the opportunity to sell their reports and be hired by individuals to prepare custom reports for them. For instance, if I want to know what the next 1 year holds for Cardano, I can pay in OTC tokens an expert to create a private report, which will constitute a personal opinion regarding the project’s development. Community experts with high rating can also be hired.

AS: How big is the team of Otcrit currently and what plans on expanding do you have?

It’s actually hard to tell because although the core team consists of 13 people but we have so many ardent contributors at this point that we consider them to be a part of the Otcrit family. Those include developers, analysts, writers, and graphic designers. We have 3 people on the team working on the exchange development but also a ghost team with experienced trading developers that will help us build it on time. For understandable reasons, we decided not to include their names on the website. Safety first.

In the future we plan to hire as many researchers as possible that would not only be making sure that database is as complete, but that the articles that we are having published on a daily basis live up to the standards that we are setting. Having a serious marketing team is also a priority of ours, as well as a dedicated customer management staff. Last, but certainly not least – world-class security experts, QA, backend and frontend developers that would be making sure the Otcrit exchange is at the top of its game 24/7.

AS: How far is the development? Who will do the development?

We recently released the Alpha version of our database platform but it will be redesigned when we have more time and manpower.  Analysts are already filling it up with original content.

AS: How do you plan to market Otcrit?

We will be marketing ourselves to the most educated investors, trying to attract ‘smart money’ instead of ‘dumb money’ to Otcrit. These individuals can be found browsing through the respected media outlets, going to summits and other events. We plan to reach out to them first. The digital marketing campaign will obviously not be halted even for a second, our banners will be on every major website. Seeing how Kucoin’s affiliate program has led to a significant traction to their exchange, we will be utilizing these already tested means of attracting new users as well.

AS: Where do you see Otcrit in one year?

If everything goes as planned, then Otcrit should be an emerging ‘player’ in the crypto-space. We will be surrounding ourselves with experienced partners who share our views and we will be expanding our community by offering them as much value as possible.

In addition, we will be helping those ventures, which we deem (in spite of the word’s over-usage) revolutionary to get the exposure they deserve. The Otcritex should be fully operational and it will be setting new standards when it comes to UX, listing, and trading. Of course, this is our optimistic view, in the crypto-space everything is possible and nothing is certain, but I can guarantee that our team is dedicated to achieve all of this.

AS: Thank you for your time!

ICO
